Hardtails 26er's
Hardtails are mountain bikes with suspension forks at the front and no suspension in the rear.

Since their invention almost all hardtail mountain bikes used 26 inch wheels, since the late '00's mountain bikes of all types started to be produced with 29 inch wheels, which are said to offer advantages over the smaller 26in wheel for taller riders and those riding longer distances on smoother terrain.

Mountain bikes with 29 inch wheels are commonly called 29er's, the smaller 26in bikes are often now referred to as 26er's. Most modern mountain bikes come with disc brakes, lightweight frames and durable components and should not be confused with leisure bikes which often look the same but will be considerably heavier with less durable parts.

Typically hardtail mountain bikes start at 400-500.

Hardtails- Womans
Hardtails are mountain bikes with suspension forks at the front and no suspension in the rear.

Our womans hardtails are designed specifically for the typical female build: Shorter and higher, as woman typically have longer legs and shorter torsos than men. Womans specific bikes will often be spec'd with narrower bars, shorter stems and wider saddles.

Jump
Jump bikes are typically 26 inch wheeled bikes with a small range of gears, small frames and extremely strong components. Think of them as over sized BMX.

They are designed for stunt riding including tricks, jumps, drops similar types of extreme riding. Normally they will be spec'd with smooth tyres and are best suited to riding on hardback and tarmac.

Some jump bikes are more off road suitable and will be spec'd with a wider range of gears and knobbly tyres.

Leisure
Leisure mountain bikes often look identical to hardtails but looks is where the similarity ends. Hardtails typically cost twice as much as leisure mountain bikes and are often half the weight and five times the strength.

If your only looking for a bike for the occasional ride around the local park with the kids and the odd trip to the shops a good quality leisure mountain bike will be perfect. They typically have robust frames, V-brakes, chunky tyres and a good range of gears.

Prices can start as low as 200 and if looked after they can last for years.

Rigid/Urban
Back in the day ALL mountain bikes were rigid, that is with no suspension front or rear. Nowadays rigid mountain bikes, or urban bikes as they're often known, are built as robust and highly manoeuvrable city bikes.

They will normally come with slick tyres and a wide range of gears. They're ideal for darting in and out of traffic, bouncing up and down kerbs and battering through pot holes.

Think of them as mountain bikes for the urban jungle.

Suspension- 26er's
Suspension bikes are mountain bikes with suspension forks at the front and and suspension units and linkages in the rear.

The main advantage of suspension bikes over hardtails (suspension in the front, non at the rear) is largely one of comfort: With both wheels being suspended the rider is isolated from the often bumpy terrain. Whilst suspension bikes can often be as light as their hardtail counterparts they do require require more maintenance due to the increase in moving parts.
